Officials broke ground Monday on what’s being billed as the first “true” high-speed rail system in the U.S.
From #Brightline West, it will feature fully electric trains reaching speeds of 200 mph. The average speed will be around 115 mph.
With a projected ridership of 10 million people per year, the 218-mile rail line is being constructed in the middle of the I-15 highway.
The goal is to have it running in time for Los Angeles to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.
@MrsHowelsEyebrows @thewebrecluse Rancho Cucamonga is actually 42 miles south of LA. Residents of LA would have to take the Metrolink, or pay parking. Adding the time and costs to the train ticket fares, it seems unlikely that most Angelinos would opt for the train over the four hour car ride for a leisure destination.
@Notokay @MrsHowelsEyebrows I think you will be surprised by what happens when you introduce high speed rail.
@thewebrecluse @MrsHowelsEyebrows I would love to be surprised. I love trains. But I've spent a lot of time driving around Southern California on work trips over the last 7 years, and I am skeptical.
@thewebrecluse Interesting!
