Y'all know me. Anything having to do with Korean Shamanism I'm going to be there with bells on, but this cast ... this absolutely epic cast makes this a TRIPLE win.

Choi Min Sik (Oldboy, I Saw the Devil, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance), Kim Go Eun (Yumi's Cells, Little Women, Monster, Sea of Hope), and Lee Do-Hyun (Sweet Home, The Glory, Death's Game) ... this is going to be an AMAZING film and I can't wait to see it.

is an occult mystery film that unravels bizarre events involving a feng shui master, a mortician, and two shamans as they relocate mysterious graves in exchange for a hefty sum of money.

Exhuma has been invited to the 74th Berlin International Film Festival and is set to hit theaters on February 22.

Can't wait!

I've been raving about for a while, especially the cast which is a group of some of the most TALENTED and amazing actors across the spectrum of Korean media: Choi Min Sik (Oldboy, I Saw the Devil, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance), Kim Go Eun (Yumi's Cells, Little Women, Monster, Sea of Hope), and Lee Do-Hyun (Sweet Home, The Glory, Death's Game).

Exhuma is on track to becoming one of the biggest box office hits in South Korean history surpassing 6 Million Moviegoers In Just 11 Days.

has made history at the South Korean box office! 🎉 🎉

On March 9, the Korean Film Council announced that as of March 8, “Exhuma” had officially reached a total of 7,009,491 moviegoers.

With this achievement, “Exhuma” has now become the first Korean occult horror film in box office history to surpass 7 million moviegoers.

It hit this epic milestone in LESS than 16 days, four days faster than “12.12: The Day,” which was Korea’s biggest box office hit of 2023.

Less than a month into its run, is already the 25th most-watched Korean film of all time!

On March 17, the Korean Film Council announced Exhuma had officially reached a total of 9,012,758 moviegoers.

Not only is Exhuma the first film of 2024 to hit the 9 million mark at the box office, but it is also the first Korean occult horror film ever to reach the milestone.

If you haven't seen Exhuma ... DO.
It's out!

Exhuma is very Korean and I understand why it swept the Korean box office and is one of the highest grossing films. It's made for Korean audiences who can understand shamanism, the division of generational religious beliefs, privilege and the like. It has deeply Korean sensibilities, complicated history, and religion. I do not think this film will appeal at all to Americans because the film isn't teaching you anything. It's for Koreans who understand these things on a very cultural level.

Just keep that in mind if you have an interest in seeing this. It's not for us (non-Koreans) and it won't cater to you in any way, shape, or form.

Exhuma is absolutely BRILLIANT. This is so deeply resonant and powerful and I fully understand why it's top in Korea. Unless you understand the history you probably will not understand this film at all ... I urge you to look up the history in question and really understand the pain involved and how it still is relevant today.

Similar to Whispering Corridors 6 ... The history discussed in that film was so painful and directly related to some brutal truths that South Korea had admitted to.

Being able to watch this kind of South Korean horror, knowing the history is crucial to understanding it.

was MINDBLOWINGLY good. The writing my god there were some killer lines in that. So much to unpack in there ... I really, really was floored by this one. I can't really recommend it, but if you have the time to do the research past and present, I think it's absolutely worth seeing. I think it's probably one of the most powerful messages I've seen in while. Performances from an absolute all-star cast rounded out the epicness. Kim Go Eun is such a queen. ❤️

@thewebrecluse I'm assuming Koreans count in a similar way as the Japanese, because they're holding up a "700". In Japanese, there is no dedicated word for "million", but there is one for ten thousand, "man". So 100,000 would be "10 man", and 1 million would be "100 man".

@thewebrecluse

I would love to see this. Is it playing in the US yet? I just looked and can't find it anywhere in Maine. ☹️

@Tarnagh Exhuma opened in Los Angeles March 15 and should expand to other U.S. theaters March 22.

@NewYorkJellybean She's INCREDIBLE in it ❤️ ❤️ You will love her performance!

@thewebrecluse I’m sure I will. I’ve almost watched every drama she’s been in. I’m still in the middle of S02 of Yumi’s Cells and almost done with The King: Eternal Monarch. Once I’m done with the dramas, I plan to start on her movies. I may watch Goblin again!
