@thereg001 He did.Had quite a few relatives take part in the operation....land, sea and air.I come from a long line of military service.Most that served in WW2 had been serving in their respective branches for several years before the war started,career soldiers.
One great-uncle went ashore in the first wave,he'd been evacuated from Dunkirk earlier on.Only thing he ever said about D-Day was that there were quite a few that couldn't wait to land and give the Germans some payback.

@thereg001 He joined up in 1935,was a Sgt by the time war broke out in 39. Took part in the Italy and Africa landings too.
