: This is all just awful. We used to go to Chimney Rock throughout my childhood and into my teens, and I've gone to it frequently in my adulthood, as recently just this part March. Over half of the place is gone, not damaged but gone.
: Adventure Cat does an adventure.
: I'd love to be able to go back in time and make a survey of old tradespeople and just let them talk shop. I love talking shop, any number of shops.
: Rules, practicality, culture, government, and zeitgeist. I have always found how these interact, collude or clash.
: I knew vaguely about this, but I didn't know about the last bit, though I'm not at all surprised.
: I learned a new thing this morning.
: I've spent the evening listening to some newer #DoctorWho audio adventures from #BigFinish Productions, and I'm delighted.
Me and my homeys at Big Finish go back twenty years.
: Well, my area got off comparatively light. There was a small amount of flooding, right along the Yadkin River. (It almost bisects the two main towns here.) It flooded 16' (~3m). Power's out in the 15-block radius, which covers the south side of town, where I live. Repair may be done by 11.59 PM EST on Sept. 29, as per Duke Energy. They've about 1.8mn other customers without power and in way worse conditions overall.
: The Yadkin River runs through my little town here, and I drover over it yestereve at around 6 PM. It was about six feet over its banks and flowing well over the riverwalk and park along it. It is currently almost fifteen feet over. I'm still at home, but the bridge must be impassable at this point or close enough to.
I live on one of the tallest hills in town. So I'e got that going for me.
: And no, Daniel Day Lewis doesn't prove me or others in my camp of actors, directors, and producers, wrong.
Method is what its adherents want to do and dig, and that's fine, but learning your lines, understanding the overall story or scene(s) and how your part figures into it, and hitting your marks gets you usually 90% of the way to "Holy shit! That guy (or gal) is GREAT!"
: Bill Nighy explains a fundamental difference between how the bulk of British actors do it versus the way "great actors and actresses" are said to do it
...and high-profile and even non-high-profile British actors outgun every level of American actors in nearly ever way.
It's the myth of the Olympus-level Method Actor. For my money and in my experience, the Method is working way, way, way harder and at greater all-around expense and hassle to get a more efficiently got just as good result.
