1/2: Tradespeople who charge for individual jobs on their own what general contractors overcharge for the same work crack me up.

GC charges nearly $750 in labor for a front door replacement, not including the pre-hung door and all, and pays the tradespeople $150.

Tradespeople charge $750 or maybe $500 to do the same job they otherwise get paid $150 for, and they get indignant and shirty when you don't go above $300 for the job. Then when they opt not to do the work, they say you're stealing...

2/2: ...food from their children's mouths. I mean I get the whole "I want to get paid as much as I can" thing. I am that way my own self, but if you're going to freelance, you can't really credibly fuss about refusing work that pays more than the same work you do for less for someone else.

I put the door in myself. It just took a day longer, and I cronched an index finger and stubbed TF out of a pinky toe. But the dude's still angry and complaining to folks in town about it.
