@Museek: What are the odds they have something lines up for private companies to go and take that huge lithium deposit in the PNW?
@TetsuKaba @Museek: How so?
@TetsuKaba @Museek: Ah, I forgot about that lithium. I'd be willing to wager those MAGAfolk will fuss a lot but then take large checks for the land. The difference between that land and the Native lands in the PNW is stark, though. The MAGAfolk can go buy other land where they can be far away from people. The history's different for the Native Americans.
@thedisasterautist @Museek True but I suspect no one will get paid what the land's worth, just token pennies on the dollar.
@TetsuKaba @Museek: I disagree. Pennies on the dollar? I doubt that. They'll likely offer approximately what the land is worth undeveloped, no mineral rights and such, and if refused, they'll do what the shopping mall and complex did in the city I went to college:
While the holdouts try to sell for the max, everyone else around them will sell, and then the company/companies will make the holdouts' lives absolutely damn miserable, all while keeping to the letter of the law. Then...
@TetsuKaba @Museek: ...the holdouts will wind up taking much less than the initial offer.
(That's in Western NC.)
Buying the property for at or around market -- or possibly a few percent above market, is fine for them because they know what they'll reap from it. They'll recoup it all from federal and state subsidies alone in less than a year or two.
@TetsuKaba @Museek: The federal government will do everything it possibly can to seize the Native land and/or the mineral rights and sell/lease them to the miners and such. They'll promise casinos or something. The companies might offer the tribes a percentage ownership or at least participation. Dunno.
@thedisasterautist @Museek If they go after lithium in the PNW, they'll go after it in NC. Space Karen needs a massive supply for his businesses.
