: My production company sold a first-draft screenplay of mine, sold it outright, with my permission. We weren't going to be able to do anything with it for at least 3 to 5 years, and the other folks have obscene cash but no ideas. We needed cash (and still do, really). Now we have enough dinero to operate without panic and without having to beg for favors to repay later... at least until the EOY. This is the glamorous movie business, kids.
@SatuUnelmia: Gracias.
I'll get "from an original story by" credit, and that's because for serious they are going to have to do six banana boats worth of rewrites to turn it from ore into jewelry. As a first draft, it clocked in a 161 pages; part screenplay, part novella. That said, having the cash to actually operate the company is quite a nice exchange. :)
@thedisasterautist will you let me know when it comes out, even if it’s years from now?
@SatuUnelmia: I likely won't know, alas. Most stuff I've ever sold's never ultimately been produced or if produced, never finished filming or post-production. Lots of smol indies movies wind up so, at least in my direct experience. Also, the script was sold outright, which means I'll likely get "from an original story by" credit... if it's still enough the same story as the original.
@thedisasterautist I think it really fantastic you have the creative skills to even do that! I’m a reader but I lack creative writing skills. Hope you get all of your dreams!
@SatuUnelmia: Gracias, fren. :)
@thedisasterautist congratulations! 🎊
@thedisasterautist That’s so amazing! Congratulations!
