@grayman: ...they love weird because there's this cultural thing about desperately not wanting to be "normal" or "average", neither of which there is any such thing. But when they encounter weird for more than a brief stint, they want away from it, at least get it to arm's length. Why? Because it's unfamiliar. It isn't "safe". It bothers them, slightly at first, but then that bother becomes more pronounced.
Again, not villainy necessarily. Just nature.
