: When I was a kid and this album came out, every last kid I knew at school and in town thought I was a lunatic for loving it. I mean the white kids, the black kids, and the hispanic kids. Well, there was one exception: Kenny Curry. He was a dummer in the high school band, and I knew him tangentially because I was about to go into high school and was a drummer in middle school.

Herbie Hancock blew the doors off popular music at the time. Check the flow of music releases after he arrived on the scene. There was a ton of emulation of his style.
