: What's weird to me is that "the market" doesn't set prices. Individual sellers do.
The other weird thing is that people often don't want to buy "cheap" things, even if the quality is good or high but that only the price is low.
Por ejemplo, Arizona Iced Tea. As the founder/owner said and I paraphrase, 'We make money selling at the prices we do. Why raise them?'. Also, Bimbo bread. I buy that brand because it's $1.99 per loaf, which is $2.50 less than the next-cheapest locally, and it's...
People are still overly concerned with image. A family member who had little money didn't want to shop at Walmart because "that's ghetto". The fuck?
And then you have people who CAN afford more expensive items that are actually higher quality, but still knowingly buy cheap, poor quality items simply because they're cheap, then they bitch about the poor quality and how nothing is "made in USA". Well Kevin, you won't buy that more expensive item so that company moved to China.
: ...far superior to Merita, Wonder, and the store brands. Bimbo Bakeries USA is a Fort Worth, TX-based subsidiary of a Mexican-based international bakery company, and when a lot of 'Muricans learn it's a "Mexican brand" and not expensive, they bail.
A colleague of mine , Keith Gamble, thirty years ago put it aptly when asked about the fundamental problem with the bulk of businesses and people in the US. He said, "Greedy muthas."
