@wyrmeboi: That's in larger part because the press are people, and there are some who don't believe in it, for whatever reasons. Also, the press rather fancy themselves experts themselves, and the press are run like/as for-profit businesses. They can't really get a conversation going. That's not their function, really. There's is "reporting" and for some decades now also "interpreting" the news for readers, listeners, viewers. Also, everyday people don't always respect science or scientists...

Public will attempt to argue from authority, argue from "Question Authority", and then when they get trounced by people that verifiably know WTF they're talking about, the people's egos do a protecc, and they whine, "Well, *I* don't believe it!"
