@JohnnyGenX: This very thing going on the last several years is the part of the history of democracies and republics that are unfashionable and don't get taught in schools, except for the Nazis in Germany in the 1930s.
The actual American political history is ugly, petty, corrupt AF, violent, and chock full of all kinds of press arms various parties printing lies, more lies, libelous stuff, and other yellow journalism. Same for practically all of Europe. Same for Central and South America.
@JohnnyGenX: Same for India. And more. It's the effect of power on people, individually and collectively. Institutional memory dies every 25 to 50 years, because the young people invariably think they're doing everything knew and that "nothing like this has ever happened before".
