People are moved when Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapses after a routine hit. True tragedy, but EVERYONE on that field is contracting CTE, for your AMUSEMENT. No one who watched football seems to have a problem with that.
@peter_by_the_sea. CTE is more about the tackling and 1000s of falls, than the head contacts, although they’re bad too. Rugby has less head contact, but more contact/falling. Soccer has a lot less of both. CTE exists there, but in much lower numbers. American and Aussie football, and Rugby are death games. If you’ve covered these people, and watched their retirements devolve to CTE Alzheimer’s like symptoms, it’s really sad.
@peter_by_the_sea at AYSO (USA) we banned heading under U-14. Many purists howled, but moms liked us!
@theclevertwit In the UK, there''s increasing awareness of CTE in rugby and soccer (through heading the ball), with many tragic cases amongst ex-players reported nationally. Training, at least at the junior level, seems to be moving away from full contact and hopefully there'll be some changes in adult sport.
