EA announced via press release that remake is officially set to launch in January and that is the best news I've woken up to in a long while.

Dead Space is absolutely one of the best video game experience I've ever had next to System Shock 2 of course. 😜

Loved both these games.

Have you tried Prey, which is basically a soft reboot of SS2? Its currently free on Epic Games Launcher for the next 7 days. I thoroughly recommend it (played it twice through).

@panaflax I feel pretty certain we will never get a proper SS now though ... I was looking forward to seeing SHODAN again in my lifetime.

@thewebrecluse

Never played original SS, I didn't have the patience back then. I've since mellowed 😅

I've been keeping my eye on the System Shock....reboot that seems to be on the horizon.

I played the demo when it originally came out. Pretty short, and that was a few years ago, but might be worth checking out.

I'm less familiar with the originals, and only put time into SS2 that I can remember.

@tehsilentcircus @panaflax I feel we're never going to get it now ... Tencent has taken control of it and while I have no doubt they'll put something out ... I worry about what it will end up being. Terri Brosius coming back as SHODAN is what I really cared about and I hope she's still on board. The System Shock 3 teaser trailer they released made me really, really hopeful.

@panaflax @tehsilentcircus The SS3 trailer came out long before Tencent swooped in ... I don't know what's going to happen now.

Yep, its been on my watchlist for a few years now! From what I've read, the original is supposed to be a grind and an acquired taste for its weirdness.

Its all down to what they do with the remake. Best case scenario would be like the remake of the original Resident Evil: same, but different, and accessible to a new generation with modern expectations. Remains to be seen if it ever gets over the line. Vapourware or Duke Nukem Forever?

@panaflax @tehsilentcircus I think many people have never played the original SS games and its hard to get people interested now because they're so old and the graphics are so dated. Playing SS back in the day was wild and terrifying and just so unlike anything that had come out. SHODAN especially set the bar high. Its hard and hardcore and a grind and amazing storytelling. Bioshock captured it as close as any game has since but still not quite the same ...

@tehsilentcircus I'd encourage you to become familiar with the original series but I know its too old for a lot of people to play anymore. You just kind of "hard to be there" to really appreciate what those games were giving. They paved the way for so many games that came after.
