I can't decide if this is supposed to be a kitchen utensil, or a gift for the ex-husband/ex-boyfriend who is hanging on and thinks he still has a shot.

@tdotrob πŸ€” it's the Penn State specialty kit. πŸ˜…

@tdotrob your bowls are fantastic I'm in awe. 😍 πŸ˜₯ I can only aspire to be that good at bowl turning someday.

@Brisse Thanks! The trick, I think, is to stay out of both the workpiece throw path and my comfort zone. In this case, by going big. I've turned larger diameter platters but this is the first time I've put a 40 lb chunk of wood on there and spun it at 800 rpm. Planning to core it out twice and try to get a set of 3 nested bowls. Fingers crossed. Results will hit the firehose mid- to late in the week.

@tdotrob Ahh you also have a much bigger lathe than mine, I only have a Nova Comet II DR, it's small but a beast. πŸ˜… I prefer making small things for my shop rather than large things anyways. I'm going to start on rings as soon as I can afford the proper mandrel and the cutter.

@Brisse The Saturn is good for small stuff too! I love making pens, ornaments, and handles for various things. I want to try some "inside-out" ornament turning this year. I shall keep an eye out for your pix. I saw the bowl and cutting board way down in your timeline. Great work! Esp. the bowl.

@tdotrob πŸ˜‚ I tried the inside out ornament turning but even with the glue method, every time I turned my lathe on the wood exploded apart.

@Brisse Eek! That's not good! I have a full-face shield and I try to stay out of the line of fire but I guess I'll be extra cautious when I try this. And maybe make the prototype out of balsa. πŸ˜€

@tdotrob Same, I'm tempted to see if my new woodturner's double sided tape would work better than the wood glue I have πŸ˜… When I use it for jewelry turning it's really really hard to get the jewelry pieces off the mandrel.
