The situation is grave. There are huge challenges, but also some proposed solutions in this episode.
We need to process as societies what we're going to do about the personhood and legality of AI, and figure out market solutions too, perhaps even faster.
Thank you CoSo for being an example and a leader in this!

@thewebrecluse Sigh. Tricky challenge!
@thewebrecluse This is what looping (or active listening) is good at addressing.
When we have confirmation of communication in the mix, everything gets much clearer, even if it takes longer and feels somewhat stilted.
When people start doing this, and they begin to get a sense of how common they misinterpret someone else's intentions, in big and small ways, it is staggering.
@thewebrecluse For quality, most Zoom recorders (and others) work as an audio interface with a computer.
In my experience the Podtrak P4 is the most seamless, though that one doesn't have a built-in mic like others.
On the p4, you can switch back forth between accessing the files on the recorder and using it as an interface while it's plugged in.
If you use a remote-desktop app, you could do most the computer stuff on your end. Apparently TeamViewer does this for free for personal use.
@see_the_sus This is the one that jumped into my head right away -- The Grunge Song by the Vestibules:
@LiberalLibrarian Yep! And many of them are quite happy to tell anyone wiling to listen: "facts don't care about your feelings."
@corlin Isn't he describing Substack? It really sounds to me like he's describing Substack.
@HawkHorton It'd be really fun to watch a roomful of Christian theologians react to that.
Likewise, Christians do *not* believe in reincarnation, they believe in resurrection! [scratches head]
Christians have convinced each other their beliefs are special, unique and altogether different from anyone else's, but they're actually very similar to many other religious/spiritual beliefs. And pointing that out generally makes them *very* uncomfortable.
@Museek I'm with you. I think there is great value inherently in Indigenous wisdom and perspective.
There is also is an important corrective in lifting up voices who are victims of colonisation, supremacism and exploitation which have loudly dominated human history for far too long.
@HawkHorton Okay, there are *many* different takes on all of this, but I'll give you some generally-agreed-on broad strokes.
Most Christians have adopted the concept of the Trinity, which is one God in three "persons."
God is the creator, the impetus of all that is, making order out of chaos.
Jesus Christ is the direct descendant (son) of God, who was fully God (immortal) and fully human (mortal).
The Holy Spirit is God's prevailing presence, aiding in inspiration, understanding, solace, etc.
@tirebiter73 And so glibly, too. Like it's just totally obvious and normal, and everyone should simply accept whatever they say about whatever they're talking about.
It happens at all levels.
@Museek Thank you for engaging in these delicate matters with me, and helping me steer my thoughts and feelings surrounding this whole situation.
I am eagerly learning about so much of what has been hidden in plain sight, so to speak.
@Museek There's so much beauty in the words and intentions of the traditional Indigenous people. I deeply wish her credibility was at the same level.
@Museek So...I didn't dig into this more until I was confronted by the hurt and pain of some Indigenous people in my life.
There is very strong evidence to counter many/most of the claims in her statement. What I feel is so small compared to the depth of confusion and betrayal Indigenous people around me are feeling.
@HawkHorton Hopefully? In what sense do you mean?
@codeWhisperer @redenigma Not enough people are sufficiently aware of how deep this word cuts.
@LiberalLibrarian Ha ha! I'd appreciate discovering a contrary example. But everything I've witnessed fits this.
It's like the declaration of unity itself sparks an urge to assert human individuality.
Stay curious and courageous. Change often arrives sideways.
