I guess Meta is banking on the fact that its target audience is too young to remember Threads (1984), the single most awful, horrible, disturbing movie I've ever seen.
@mach1group It was a mixture of expressing our pervasive sense of doom out loud, and also fuelling it.
@sumpnlikefaith I know among my peers, we never expected to see adulthood. And that was without knowing how close we came with things like Able Archer. Imagine our feelings of doom had we known!
@mach1group I didn't even know that. I don't think I want to know that now...
Wow.
@sumpnlikefaith And that pales in comparison to the false alarm where the Soviet early warning system detected multiple missiles launched by the US, and a Soviet Lt. Colonel defied standing orders and decided it was a false alarm on his own. That was shortly after the downing of KAL 007, so tensions were really high.
@sumpnlikefaith Wow! Just read the description of Threads (the movie) on Wikipedia. No kidding it’s disturbing, even just reading about it.
@REDonaldAuthor Yes. Just making sure I'm perfectly clear here: I do *not* recommend it.
@sumpnlikefaith The genre including Testament and The Day After that helped shape Gen X's mindset!
