"Salt really brings out the flavour!" -- people expressing their appreciation for the taste of salt.
@theunabeefer Salt definitely has its place! I work with someone who needs to eat salty stuff just to keep his blood pressure from dropping dangerously low.
I'm not disparaging salt, just gently pointing out a foible in our cultural tastes. 🙂
@sumpnlikefaith I absolutely agree with it. "The flavor is better..." Yeah, because you've added the salt flavor.
@theunabeefer Ha ha! Perfect! :-)
Salt does change our perception of other flavors, making things taste less bitter, intensifies sweetness and umami flavors depending on concentration. It also plays interestingly with acid, I remember loving green, sour mangoes sprinkled with a lot of salt when I was a kid (same happens with Margaritas) @theunabeefer @sumpnlikefaith
@sumpnlikefaith I grew up in household with high blood pressure parents and everything was prepared very low sodium. I still eat my food with little salt and don't like (or do well with) salty food
@Blue_Skyesr_here This is where I'm at. The differences in food prep expectations, even in our household of four, keeps life interesting.
@sumpnlikefaith I love salt ... But then again, I DO have a sodium deficiency. Other people, I can't speak for!
