Kind of predictable, isn't it... how all these people who worship an authoritarian version of God also want an authoritarian version of government? You'd never catch a Sufi (a real one, that is) or a Buddhist propping up a wannabe fascist dictator.
@San_Ban I'm well aware of what you're talking about, as well as the "Imperial Buddhism" of the Japanese during World War II. But in doing atrocities, none of them were actually following the teachings of Buddha, were they? Just as the Christofascists in World War II era Nazi Germany weren't really following the teachings of Christ. Bastardized, corrupted versions of any religion cannot be considered representative of the real thing. My statement stands.
@sufisamwise
So those billions of Buddhists are No True Buddhists?
@San_Ban you are in no way understanding anything I have said. I'm not sure why you cannot understand the concept that nothing I said implies those billions of people were not true Buddhists. I only referred to people whose authoritarian versions of religion make them prone to preferring authoritarian versions of government. I never once referred to good people of any religion, who are abused by a government.
@San_Ban besides, although Buddhists don't use the word "God".... it's still the same ground or substratum of existence, just conceived in non-anthropomorphic fashion.
@sufisamwise
How is that relevant to whether Buddhists could support an authoritarian gov't?
@San_Ban you keep trying to start an argument based on words you are misinterpreting. Sorry, but I'm going to have to block you.
@San_Ban what you perhaps don't understand is that whatever is true in what you said, in no way negates the truth of what I said. Two things can actually be true at the same time... 😏
@sufisamwise
I guess, but only if you completely change the meaning of "never" to mean "sometimes" or "often".
@San_Ban sorry to say this, but I suspect that your ability for clear, precise reasoning is lacking... either that, or English is not your first language. Seriously, every single thing you are saying shows that you're misinterpreting all of my words. You simply don't understand.
@sufisamwise
You sure about that? See Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bhutan, China...
