Which leaves the question... where's all the millions he's getting in donations going? Because this doesn't cost him anything.

This also addresses the folks that keep saying "everyone would have to be in on it- Secret Service, police, et al" No- that's the whole point- they were all responding to the threat... they wouldn't know if the "attempt" was staged.

Exactly... on the actual building a local police tactical team was using as a staging area to watch over the crowd at the Butler Farm Show. Shooter immediately killed (expected). No background, note, reason. Then cremated. The end.
