Plymouth is pretty much equidistant from three of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Dartmoor to the North
Cornwall to the West
Torbay and the English Riviera to the East.

And I’ve heard Plymouth is quite lovely, too. It’s on my Jane Austen tour of England bucket list 😁

The very oldest parts are a delight and the sea front views into Plymouth Sound can be spectacular.

Ooooo - I was just listening to the History of England podcast, which mentioned Devon and Cornwall during Anglo Saxon times. I knew Cornwall was staunchly Romano-British and resisted Anglo Saxon rule for a long time, but I didn’t know Devon did, too. It looks like such a beautiful part of England.
