It seems inappropriate to me that an NFL game begins with singing the National Anthem and waving the flag.
It's a ballgame in a league of pro football players. It doesn't really have any relationship to the country or patriotism. To imply or suggest that it does is dishonest and off putting, implying you aren't a real American if you don't like football. It's reminiscent of the MAGA slogan.
Let's get rid of flags and prayers at our ballgames, shall we?
@Armchaircouch
Ok. I respect your patriotism.
But I am troubled by Trump and the MAGA movement attempting to redefine what it means to be American.
And the NFL wrapping itself in the flag, implying real Americans love football is disturbing.
American == Football loving
is a false equivalency.
Many Americans show their patriotism in various ways having nothing to do with sports whatsoever.
When I watch a ballgame I don't want to be made to feel I don't belong somehow.
Totally agree, that’s lame. and trumpers and their controllers are whack.
Plus everybody knows baseball is the United States’ favorite sport and that’s what defines a real US American… 🤣😁 (jk!) @sloudermilk
Apparently its origins were very appropriate, it was during war and US Americans were brought together by song at games.
I’m not religious, but for me the anthem is a homage to our troops and people who serve, that’s why I get teary-eyed. I can’t imagine the start of a sports game without the national anthem, that would be so weird! @sloudermilk
