Never have I seen a more perfect example of an organization misjudging it's own reason for existence than this action by the #ACLU.
This pointless nitpicking and failure to see the nose on their own face is stunning and so disappointing by the ACLU.
I'm a member. But I'm now wondering if that should continue.
@sloudermilk The ACLU is there for _all_ free speech and first amendment cases, not just for the ones we like, for the people we like.
If you think the ACLU only deserves support when it is speech you approve of, well, that's exactly why we need the ACLU.
My favorite thing for Trump to say would be "Ah, I've spontaneously combusted and am dying!" but it is the ACLU's job to push back on any speech limitations.
I'm glad they pushed on this, and I'm glad the judge said "fuck no" to them.

Thanks. I appreciate the intent. But free speech is not without limit. That means there must be human judgement employed to determine where the limit is.
As you say, in this case it's very easy to see that Trump's speech is being fairly limited. So I can't understand why the ACLU didn't easily see it too.
An organization that tone deaf and judgmentally flawed does not get my money for support.

Well then I'd expect the ACLU to push back on every gag order issued by every Judge. And I don't think they are. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). And therein lies the problem.
@sloudermilk There's clearly a free-speech issue to be tried, even if you and I as not practicing attorneys (I'm assuming you are not in fact a constitutional attorney, though correct my assumption if it is incorrect).
The ACLU push back on every attempt to limit speech - it's literally what they do.
Obviously I agree with you that this is a class of speech that needs to be limited, since it gets people killed and damages the public.
But it's still a speech issue.
