As near as I can tell, this "Unanimous Consent" rule in the US Senate, that Tuberville is using to block all senior military promotions,is completely incomprehensible. For sure it's stupidly inefficient.

This is no longer just Tuberville's fault. All Senators are culpable for letting this charade continue and for not updating their stupidly outdated rules

It's time for everyone to pressure our Senators, regardless of Party. This is embarrassingly childish and destructive.

@ToolPackinMama
Agreed. But all Senators are allowing his shit to continue. And they don't have to.

@sloudermilk

nope. I refused to blame "All senators" because that is EXACTLY what the GOP wants you to do, when it is squarely the fault of tuberville and the lack of action by the GOP leadership to make him change.

It is not even about Abortion anymore. It is a soft coup to leave the door open for Trump and the GOP to handpick the next military leaders who will allow an Autocracy and punish the military for not supporting the insurrection

@Kinnison
I disagree. You could have one, or more saboteurs and traitors and still get business done if the Senate had common sense rules about how to conduct their business.

@Kinnison
One or two idiots should not have the power to stop the entire Senate from performing it's responsibility.

@sloudermilk This is a rule not a law. They make the rules they go by and they can change them. They won't because the entire GOP holds nothing but contempt for this country. They will with a smile and a handshake do everything in their power to weaken it. This goes much farther than Tubervillian.
we need more than one party, but the insane posse GOP isn't a 'real' party anymore.

@Lucky188 @sloudermilk I read that some are actually concerned it will backfire or be weaponized. For instance, the Senate voted to change the hold procedures on Supreme Court appointments after Garland, and then we got The Great Rushjob Barrett. So I'm specifically looking for solutions that do not allow a tyranny in either direction.

@CarmenSlamdiego @Lucky188
I certainly agree. And it can't be very hard to write such rules, IF you are guided by fairness and common sense instead of a quest for power.

@sloudermilk This is a kafka-esque nightmare. The Senate rules can be changed with a simple majority vote, BUT…under the current rules, a rules change can be filibustered, in which case it takes a two-thirds vote to stop the filibuster.

So maybe the Democrats can’t change the rules, but they can try, and that would force the GOP to go on the record supporting Tuberville’s treason. (Yeah, they’ll claim it’s about other stuff, but it would give the Dems more fodder going in to 2024.)
