At this point, 5G is a bad joke computerworld.com/article/3575 by @sjvn

Do not, do not, spend big bucks just to get a phone that supports 5G. Most people won't see any real improvement this year or next.

Thanks, thought I was alone in the world

*eye twitch* go ahead tell me again how 5G will fix rural coverage. Make my day.

@b4cks4w Ironically, I was just arguing on Twitter with a 5G flack who was saying but look at what Ericsson is doing! To which I replied, "This is a new coat of paint on Ericson's existing Wireless ISP approach. Yes, you can use mmWave as a point-to-point backbone, but for this purpose, 6GHz is more promising. And, besides rural users would still use conventional wired/wi-fi at the endpoints." Come on Starlink!

@sjvn Agree. The carriers have had all this time to build out towers to cover rural, and didn't. No chance they're suddenly going to start.

We haven't mentioned rain fade, which I think has a strong negative affect on the higher frequencies too.
