On this holiday Monday, I want to acknowledge something that has been told to me and my usual response.
Them: Slavery ended in 1865, why are we still talking about it like it was yesterday? You people need to get past it.
Me: I am the first of my family to be born after Civil Rights Act of 1965 became law, which makes me the first generation to be born outside of Jim Crow. And I'm not that old.

@asmitty ...and the party instrumental in ending slavery has decided to careen into fascism.

@scottlink The Republican Party of today bears no resemblance to that of 1865.

@asmitty It's like the Dems and Rs swapped part of their brains. I'd like to see a third and fourth party come along to break the duopoly.

@scottlink more parties would force more compromise to get things done.
