Finally got the final bill from my hospital stay over Thanksgiving. I still can't believe a 3 day stay for the flu and monitoring for a high heart rate cost $38,000 before insurance. This country's healthcare system stinks. My responsibility after insurance is just over $6000 and that's basically gonna take forever for me to pay off.
If you had known up front you could have checked in the most expensive hotel and a doctor plus nurse bedside with plenty of money left.
@Flyingdutchman696 Yeah, it's crazy. I only went to the ER because my temp kept going up and I felt like death. They could have given me fluids and sent me home when they found out it was the flu. That high heart rate is what made them keep me. Turns out it was only *because of* the temp. When that went down my heart was fine. Could have saved myself 1/3 of that bill and only stayed 1 day. π
@sarcasmsign @Flyingdutchman696 is the deductible high? Usually when you are admitted to the hospital the insurance covers the stay. I know it's different from place to place and different insurance companies but that balance sounds really high. And if it's a hardship for you to pay sometimes asking the hospital can get a reduced amount.
The real problem is that the healthcare system is FUBAR.
Imagine going into a restaurant after fainting and afterwards via an invoice getting charged $10k for a bottle of water.

OMG I am so sorry and that can't be great for your health at all.
