Possibly stupid question: is China a communist country?

@rpardee They call themselves that, and the state owns a lot of production.

Though, a devout Marxist will say they are not. Devout Marxists are like devout Libertarians and live in their own imaginary worlds.

China is a mixed economy, authoritarian oligarchy drifting toward dictatorship.

@rpardee quasi capitalist communist.

The state has its hands in many many businesses (I want to say almost all, but there really isn’t transparency on government controlled vs not, so 🤷‍♀️)

@rpardee Not in any meaningful sense. But no communist country has been "communist". China is a one-party dictatorship. The CCP is like the Party in "Nineteen Eighty-four". The ideology is a facade. Its true ideology is power.
