it is with great sadness that I report that my comb-over has become untenable.

So I guess I just buzz it all off now? Not sure how to make this transition...

phase I complete. I don't love it, but I hate it less than the comb-over.

Spouse has prevailed upon me to "live with it a few days" before bringing out the razor.

thankfully, I look much less like Timothy McVeigh than when I did this in my 30s.

@rpardee Follow what I call the "Picard Rule." Less is more. When you can't comb over... Shave it down (or clipper 0 it down). From my passport photo:

@rpardee And caps and knit hats will be your new best friend.

@sfleetucker ah, thanks man! That seems like wisdom. It's gonna feel weird tho I expect...

@sfleetucker @rpardee I have a collection of "redneck toupees" , or caps in the common vernacular.

I wore them young to avoid time to "do my hair". I wear them now mostly for sun protection on face and head.

@rpardee @sfleetucker This got me through the pandemic.

@S_r_stone @sfleetucker ooh, that does look handy. I've just got a corded I think Wahl brand one--have been cutting my own hair with it. It's been fine, though my cuts have been inconsistent. I reckon it'll be easier once I'm just trying to take everything off...

@sfleetucker It's a good look on you. I know it is strange to see in the mirror, but you'll get use to it.

@rpardee

@SimplyZippy It's not new to me, and I'm fine with my reflection. I've actually been shaving my head since my 30s when it started to get thin. :)

@rpardee

Man, I went several years buzzing it down real low. One day, while shaving and trimming the back of my neck, my then 10-yr old daughter walked by the bathroom, stopped and said, “hey are you shaving your head”.

Thought for about a second, told her “yup” and I’ve never looked back. That’s 20 years ago.

I *never* got compliments on my hairstyles. Being bald, quite regularly women will comment/question/compliment. It’s often a conversation starter!

@Luber905 @rpardee

Because comb overs are not sexy.

Buzzed/shaved 🔥🔥🔥

@Luber905 as in literally, w/the razor you shave your face with?

I'm imagining myself cutting my scalp up pretty good until I can get a feel for the proper angle to use...

@rpardee

I’ve shaved my scalp with every breed of razor there is; disposables, twin or triple blades, I even do so occasionally with my double-edge safety razor when I want it reeeeeeeeealy close.

Day to day, I use the HeadBlade. Newer models use proprietary blades, my original model uses Gillette blades.

@rpardee

Right? So cool.

Best part is, I find it works incredibly well.

@Luber905 heh--I may have to get one. Just scraped the hell out of my scalp w/my safety razor...

@rpardee
Buzz, brother, buzz. Haircuts will be other people's problem.

@rpardee I've been keeping mine short with a Norelco rechargeable trimmer for close to 20 years. They come with a bunch of attachments or other means to adjust the trim length, I use the shortest other than bare blades- about 1/8". You may be surprised how soon you'll be annoyed that it grows back and have to trim every 2-3 weeks.😀

@rpardee don’t forget sunscreen! I think I prefer bald to the ring. My loved ones sport the bald do so maybe I’m biased.
