trying to come up with a data standard for the concept of 'ethnicity', mostly based on the values in the medical records I have access to. It's an interesting hodgepodge of a concept, mixing national origin, language tradition & in some cases religion (or maybe subculture)

the new spec will need to be mappable to the OMB's soon-to-be deprecated conception of ethnicity, which amounts to "is you is, or is you ain't, 'hispanic'?"

Would someone who was born & raised in Spain be 'Hispanic'? 🤔

I recall when I was asked my ethnicity by clinic staff I said "German/Irish", which harks back to my grandparents.

Embarrassed to see now that the modal response so far as been 'American'. That's what I am really.
