When you put in earplugs to make it quiet so you can *hopefully* concentrate on your charting, but you have such acute hearing that you can still hear the people on the other end of the phone your parents are talking to....downstairs..... *throws hands*
Sometimes having hearing that's this good is really irksome in some instances.

@insomniacviolin would it help to listen to e.g., white noise, or rain falling or waves crashing or some such?
