I wonder if it would be possible to create a docker image that contained all my preferred software & config (sublime text & merge, powershell core, oh-my-posh, etc., my ssh keys, profiles, etc.) so that I could switch machines quickly w/a minimum of pain.
The sticky bit is that I need a proprietary software package (SAS) which I would not be able to build in to the image.
@opie ah, that sounds pretty close. Thanks!

I don't docker, but I do this with KVM and qcow images...and since all I hear is how much superior containers are to VMs, it must be possible...
for example, I boot up an install image of Debian/FreeBSD/OpenBSD...configure it the way I want (patch it, add packages, user accounts, environments, etc)...and then make that resulting qcow the base image for installing new VMs...there's quirks to it, but it ultimately saves tons of time...
