Linux runs well on my new PC EXCEPT that I get these micro-freezes every 5 minutes or so. If I'm typing, there's a pause in keys registering & then a catch-up. If I'm watching a video, it repeats a half-second interval like 3x and then recovers.
I realize this is pretty vague, but if anybody has tips for troubleshooting I would be super grateful...
@gr8m8 Gnome I think? I did a pretty vanilla ubuntu.
After writing that status I actually googled 'ubuntu micro freeze' and lo & behold there were bunches of hits. One talked about installing the 'additional drivers' application, which I did & that apparently made some changes, so I'm going to see if that made any difference. 🤞
@gr8m8 Drivers not a fix. Some further google-flailing led me to deactivate wi-fi (it's a desktop w/wired connection) which I *think* is taking care of it.
Sould probably do a restart to be sure...
@rpardee What desktop environment/window manager are you using? Have you tried switching to a different one and if so, does the problem persist across both/all? Some are more resource hungry than others, and you might fix your issue by choosing a lighter option.
Sometimes an option in the DE/WM settings can also fix things like this- I'd check if "desktop compositing" is on, it makes things prettier but I've had that cause some issues in some DE/WMs.
