I don't qualify for covid yet, but am scheduled to get a shingles vaccination later this afternoon. Yay not getting shingles!
@rpardee very much yay indeed.
@rpardee I am counting down the days I can get that vaccine. I have known several younger people to get it and really dislike the age requirement.
@AllisonKaye Oh bummer. I guess it's only FDA-approved for 50+. I wonder why? My one flare-up happened in my 40s as I recall...
@rpardee @AllisonKaye
Yep.. my father had multiple bouts. Slept sitting up at the kitchen table for a month head on his arms on the table.
8" band from sternum to spine.
His last got onto his face. Sigh
Had my first in February...
@InvaderGzim Oof--that's horrible. I got off soooo easy. I remember the doc wanting to prescribe me an opiate painkiller & I was like whaaaat?
Definite yay vaccine. Get it if you can...
@rpardee yeah I have known a couple 30 somethings that had it and even a 20 something. My dad had it so bad he could not wear a shirt for almost a year the nerve damage was so painful. So I am quite eager to avoid it.
Thanks all! Yeah, shingles is very much no fun. My last flare up was relatively mild & pretty long ago, but unpleasant enough to keep me from wanting to get it again if I can avoid it. And apparently the vaccine they have now (shingrix) is really pretty good.
I asked about it messing up any opportunities I might have to get covid & they said it's a 2-week waiting period before I could get that one.
Which is probably not going to impact my covid vax...
