Exactly this, imo.
Hillary's "deplorables" didn't land at least in part (I think) because she was using Grown Up Words.
The playground bullies all understand "weird," though.
@reportbywilson The silly thing is that if you call me weird, I'll own it, and tell you what I'm weird about. Most of it is completely harmless. I don't find weird an insult, nor do most of us on the left who all share something quirky.
But if you're an Alpha Male Cultural Icon Who Must Be Obeyed Without Question, then weird completely undermines you. You, by definition, must be 100% normal.
I'm just reiterating a point someone made elsewhere that sticks with me as truth.
