@RunningResister More so, why would they consider other people's opinions and information when they're called crazy or stupid for what they believe..... when the person calling them crazy or stupid and arguing with them doesn't understand why they believe the crazy in the first place.

Understanding the problem is the important part.

You can't solve the problem without really knowing what it is.

@RunningResister Yup.

But how are they going to "think critically" when everything they are presented with tells them they are correct?

They do a Google search, they will get 1000 articles that align perfectly with their views because that's how the social media algorithms work.

That was my experience in the MAGA Republican bubble. There was no dissenting opinion to be seen to let me think critically about it.

@Ironworker229 This was the case for my family.

Now half my family are the gun nuts, and the other half don't see a problem with it.

@PeaceMob It shouldn't be. At all.

Propaganda, the social media algorithms, and the people abusing it, are making it contentious.

@quinnsentialOne I'm really glad to hear you share that there are similar opinions, AND misconceptions on BOTH sides of that particular (and very personal) issue. The data shows, strongly, that most Americans agree on the basics. This honestly shouldn't be a contentious issue, but it has such a way of energizing voters, that they will continue to use it politically rather that letting the people have the legislation we actually want and agree on.

@DavidSalo That is the evil of the red bubble.

To the majority of moderate Republicans, there's no dissenting opinions to be seen. The algorithm perfectly defines what they see and hear.

You would think they see it via social media, but they don't.

@ciarvella @Astartiel I so agree with this!

Apparently, it's only okay for a nation to defend itself with guns and arms if its America.

Any other nation, not so much.

But if you could actually sit down and talk with all my family. With the exception of a few, they all believe abortion is okay for rape, incest, or if you are in a situation where you can't have a child.

There's fringe ones who are all no abortions ever, but they are not many.

And surprisingly enough, they don't ever fight each other on that difference of that either, because they are Republicans.

But they all believe Democrats want to abort fully grown babies.

The propaganda is strong.

I know this might be hard to understand:

But a lot of us Republicans (or ex-Republican in my case) were lied to, and are still being lied to, by our leaders.

If anything, Republicans are way way way too trusting of their own. Republicans trust Republicans without question. We didn't question our own. We didn't critique our own.

It's still happening.

My Republican family believes babies are aborted after being born, they are told so by Republican leaders. That's why they want abortion bans.

@Lahills I was one of the people who believed the Republican leaders when they said it was settled law. 😩

Overturning ROE made me sick.

It's the thing that made me really see what my party was and really break all the ties.

Sorry it took so long.

@ciarvella I feel this!

I have never been so socially active on social media than I am here.

It's amazing to actually talk to people and not ideologies.

Fundamentalism starts with a righteous idea but advances it with a closed fist rather than an open hand.

It doesn't heal. It fractures.

fundamentalism—for all of its punitive power—simply cannot compete with grace in the contest for the human heart.

@The757Progressive It certain is for the MAGA crowd.

It's all emotional reactionary.

Something I never did understand when I was a Republican:

We always flew "back the blue" flags, but we would curse their very souls for pulling us over. 😅

MAGA Republicans only backed the blue because it made Democrats angry.

That's it.

@serenityb101 Traveling is one of the most amazing experiences anyone can ever do.

Going off the beaten path is a real adventure!

Work exchanges, backpacking, hiking, bicycling, and hitch hiking through new countries is an experience that will change your life! 💪

@Maleah YES! Guineas are very loud and set off by every little thing! And obnoxiously suicidal! I haven't ever seen a bird more willing to kill itself than a guinea.

Well, except maybe Twitter. 😂

@CarmenShea Knowing what I know, it's the whole point.

They want them to get out of the state.

They think "the less lefties the better".

Given a chance, they'll do it nation wide too.

@Kimmycott Sounds like me, except instead of a Cup its a bottle of wine. 😏
