@prairiecelt: There really are just monsters out there, and there's not a few of them. That said, both messages should be out, yes. "Protect yourself", and "Don't be a predator".
@thedisasterautist Well this is true - but how many posts are there ever from men telling other men not to be dicks? Or doing something IRL when they see it happening. It just doesn't happen much, and to be honest, there's likely not a woman on this planet who hasn't known this stuff since early teenhood.. It's just frustrating to have it put upon us to prepare for bad behaviour after sooo many years.
@thedisasterautist And on a related note, it's 50 yrs today since Billie Jean King whupped whathisname on the courts and just today, there's a motion to give her a gold congressional medal - if it passes she will be the FIRST female athlete to get one, the day after she opened the FIRST professional women's hockey draft. We're patient, but somedays....

@prairiecelt: I see posts online, as you said, sometimes. I see it more IRL, the doing something, but that's because of part of my background, i.e., bouncing and club/even security, designated driver, and my upbringing. My mom was the first Victims Advocate in the state in the 1980s, my paternal grandmother was a teacher and one of the first h.s. guidance counselor in the state in the 1950s though the mid-1980s, and paternal grandfather was a magistrate and circuit court judge. My mom was...
@prairiecelt: ...also the director of a YWCA women's and children's center in the 1990s. I am also only marginally binary, if that makes sense. (My relationship with identity since toddlerhood has been unusual, almost certainly due to my neurology.)
@prairiecelt As a red state occupant, yes.
@prairiecelt: Well, not every guy listens when other people tell them not to assault women, no matter how much they tell them or have parades or "National Days of..." about it. Of course guys shouldn't ever assault women, but women oughtn't hold their breath either and then learn the hard way that lesson. Even the hardest-core punk and goth women I know give warnings like that on social media and more commonly IRL.
