This may be a “Mechanical Turk” situation. Theoretically, I’m using a WordPress AI instance to create a new website. It’s supposed to generate three options for me to evaluate. I gave it the description – it said, “the more detailed, the better” – and it’s been running for over 30 minutes now. You know what I think? I think there are three low-paid web developers somewhere in the world busy developing their ideas of what this website might look like. I can’t imagine an AI taking this long.
In tonight’s CBS News segment called “Eye On America,” I learned about a new twist in online romance scams. The scammers in Ghana are hiring live women for in-person meetings with the male victim! This takes the scam to a whole new level. In the story CBS covered, the American male met the female con artist in Ghana. She was from Australia. The Ghanaian man running the scam was their taxi driver. The male victim invested $700,000 in a non-existent gold mine.

Warning: extremely technical article. Now, having said that… I never would have expected an article on a subject this dull to be so suspenseful, and, at the same time, humorous.

There are three main Facebook attacks:
1) account impersonation (no access)
2) account compromise (access)
3) unknown friend
My account was impersonated yesterday, so I re-published this article that I first put online in March of 2020.
In this article, I explain what to do to keep yourself safe in all three situations.
