"What American apps are banned in China?"
(BTW, Signal is also banned, although not included in Google Gemini's response).

@paxterrarum

majority of apps and websites blocked are the result of the companies not willing to follow the government's internet regulations on data collection and privacy, user-safety, guidelines and the type of content being shared, posted or hosted.

also...China has the actual ability to block its citizens from accessing stuff on the internet, as all (both) ISPs are government controlled, they can filter whatever they want, and block bypass methods like VPNs and proxies outside the country...

...the US can't do that...

...yet...?

nah...I'm sure it'll be fine...

😬

Indeed its still possible for some to use app stores via VPN to instal apps and use sites

any app in the apple store
that does not also register
their app with the chinese govt
will not be sold in mainland china

this is a mandate
by the chinese govt

so in effect
there are probably thousands
of apps that are banned
from purchase in mainland china

i don't know what conditions
the chinese govt might
enforce in that registration
process to limit apps for sale

apple provides a link
to the site for registration
i clicked on it out of curiosity
it was entirely in chinese
