"The eruption on Mauna Loa at sunset last night. (11-28) This is from Mauna Kea access road, just below the visitor's center."

@okika_hilo This is scary. I can't imagine being on the island when Pele erupts. Are you ok?
@Jakki Yes. Right now I am on the mainland. This is a HUGE island. Lots of uninhabited land. Mauna Loa makes up half of the island, and most of that has little to no people on it. It is flowing in uninhabited areas right now.
@Jakki Pele is the goddess of volcanoes. The volcano erupting that you probably saw was Kilauea. Here is a map showing our five volcanoes:
@okika_hilo @Jakki I just heard back from Eliah. They do live on the slope of Mauna Loa at about 1000 meters but are all safe for now. Lava is not flowing their way. Glad she was able to get back to me. I was worried.
@smittycanada1 @okika_hilo I'm glad they're safe. Erupting volcanos are stressful shall we say🤦🏼♀️
@Jakki @okika_hilo Most certainly! 😬
@okika_hilo I think it was before 2018. It was a Wednesday nite. Which volcano is Pele? We were so stupid that we didn't know the Big Island was Hawaii🤦🏼♀️That the islands were so far apart. I wanted to take a course that was being held there. Basically zero planning. Lol
I couldn't believe the millions of black lava rocks. And the volcano erupted while we were there. And how calm everyone was.
