So it turns out swearing is a sign of greater honesty. In fact, one study asked participants about their reasons for using profanity. Two of the main reasons were to express their emotions and to express their true selves.
These are preliminary studies and more research is needed. They are correlational, so we can’t say anything about causation.
There will still be people who swear a lot and are dishonest, along with those who swear very little and are honest.
@AskTheDevil Then they will also be FAKE. Not hard for me to discern a FAKE.
@nursefrombirth If you do have tips for detecting fake people, share them far and wide! They may seem simple to you, but it's clear most people do not know them!
: )
No. I'm not being twee. I mean it! The harder it is to be a crappy person undetected the better off we all are.
@nursefrombirth Humans have a very powerful set of instincts that help them detect insincerity - and to have an outsized reaction when they detect it.
Just be warned, that human beings _also_ have a cognitive bias, perhaps even more powerful, to believe things because they want them to be true, not because they are.
TLDR: I am the Devil himself, and people have fooled, and will still fool me. Keep your BS detectors handy always!
