So some stuff happened today. The wife took the dog to the vet, and we learned that the health problems she has are more serious then we suspected. She has severe diabetes. So bad in fact they need to keep her overnight for the next few days for treatment or else she'll die. This will cost me up to $9,000
All I can think of is that line, "I will never financially recover from this".
I hope you appreciate it Roxie

Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s we had 2 miniature schnauzers over the course of 20 years. Both had various medical issues and cost me thousands of dollars. They were worth it but still….☹️ Fast forward to now. In retirement, I thought it would be a good idea to get a puppy. 🥴 This time around, I got pet insurance, which turned out to be a good decision. He isn’t quite 2 years old and already has cost me a couple thousand dollars. Pets can definitely be expensive. Good luck!

@MaryZacharias yeah, chalk one up for hindsight being 20/20

@nova
Exactly! I knew I would never get another pet without insurance. It costs me about $26/month. That premium will go up as he ages but still worth it. I remember looking for insurance with my last dog after we had several medical issues but guess what? Pre-existing conditions is a thing in the pet industry too. 😜
