A suggestion to fellow n00bs here (like me) who are feeling overwhelmed:
Unpin the "Firehose" column. You can always check it from your far right menu. It slows down incoming messages being displayed so you can get your bearings.
Adjust your columns to show what you prefer & you'll be much happier!

@johnlieske Hi Jon. Another noob. 2 questions:
1. I unpinned firehose and it's gone. There is no far right menu. Any ideas on how to get it back?
2. How do you adjust your columns? I tried to make them wider, but I cannot find anything on adjusting them
If there's a way to edit column width I haven't come across such a setting. It might be in the user guide, but I fully admit I haven't really reviewed it in any detail.
@mojoman04 I'm not sure I completely know what you mean for the second, but to the first question our new acounts have 5 columns:
1 2 3
Post Box Firehose Friends
4 5
Notifications Menu/Details
If you don't see a menu in 5 then see if there's a Back breadcrumb link to take you back to the root of the column. That's the menu.
