Has the concept of a friendly argument gone out of fashion, except perhaps among older folks?

In my circle of friends, we often convince one another of things, typically through reasoned argument, discussion, use of available facts, etc. But we also tolerate that each of us might have something they hold with or hold to that the rest think bizarre.

I recall friendly, serious, funny, running disagreements that lasted years, decades. The arguments grieved for as well, when one party passes.
