Lemme make sure I understand this right.

The Saudi investor in Formerly-Known-As is out $1.4 billion on a $2 billion investment, and this is part of a PLAN?

A plan to do WHAT?

washingtonpost.com/technology/

@mcfate

as i see it
the plan is to use it to influence
the US presidential election

it only has to keep
functioning in the US
until the election

trying to convince americans
that yes
they would rather live
under the thumb
of a dictator

the saudi's
had the additional motive
of using inside knowledge
to be able arrest
any of their citizens
critisizing them

@millard_jmm

How's a site on which a serious minority of Americans have an account, and of those who DO, better than eighty percent never use it, going to "influence an election"?

If Formerly-Known-As could "influence elections", we'd be in Bernie Sanders' second term.

This "Twitter makes things happen in the real world" stuff is a myth conceived by Twitter's PR department. It's not true.

@millard_jmm

Why would the Saudis need to invest two billion dollars and lose three-quarters of it to do what they could do just by LOOKING at Twitter?

Follow

@mcfate

looking at twitter
doesn't necessary
give you the necessary
info to find the real person

don't you recall
the news story
that came out
after the twitter takeover
about all the arrests
and executions
