@matuzalem @Zevon I have heard, but have not verified, that the olive oil we get here in the states isn’t real olive oil. I haven’t seen avocado oil but I really haven’t looked, I couldn’t use coconut oil, I’m not a big fan of coconut and I can taste it in coconut oil. Might be all in my head but it doesn’t matter since it nauseates me. I use butter if possible and admit to still using Pam when I need to coat pans and baking sheets.
@matuzalem @Zevon That tidbit of information came to me from my niece or sister-in-laws. They got it from someone trying to sell them olive oil in Italy when they were there visiting family. So I’m a tad hesitant to believe it. Not that it isn’t possible but I fail to see how any of it would really affect my purchasing habits. I try to avoid solid oils, butter is usually my downfall. I use it in cooking, baking and of course on toast and bagels. I don’t even have shortening in the house.
@cjcrew @matuzalem I use butter if I fry food which is rare. I'm surprised your oil selection is limited. We have whole sections of a variety of oils to choose from, with a majority of healthy alternatives. I assumed that was common.
@Zevon @matuzalem it might be more common here than I know. I don’t buy a lot of oils, mainly butter. I rarely fry food
And if I do I usually use Pam type of lubricant for the pan. If I want fried food I go to a local restaurant and order it. That is mainly in the form of fried chicken and French fries btw. I rarely eat many of the French fries. I’ll old, my poor abused digestive tract can’t tolerate much fried food anymore. Eggs are what I mainly fry these days.
