@badger33 They don't, actually. They run most through an automation process, and have some reviewed by humans, but they have 2 BILLION monthly users. Unless they hire entire cities, there's just no way.

@Mattrek Haha np, I was SUPER confused for a minute tho.

@badger33 There's been some action, it's just not very feasible when the number of reports you get number in the millions and cannot be individually reviewed by actual humans anymore. That's the issue - just the scale of it.

That, and when you censor *any* group of losers, you draw more radicalized losers to the cause you're trying to tamp down on. That's just an unfortunate side effect of human psychology.

@The_Dude Well yes, direct threats and the sort have never been covered. But saying, for example, "all women deserve to be raped" and starting a website to that effect is completely legal so long as there isn't a specific, actionable target. As long as they aren't saying "go rape so and so" it skates by. And I'm seeing a LOT of that lately, specifically. Incredibly threatening and damaging, but not illegal.

That's the sort of thing I mean. But it's one of those "slippery slope" things.

@badger33 But I'm not genuinely inferring that laws are the answer so much as just venting. Though I wouldn't argue against banning Nazis, for instance. Revoke their citizenship and drop them on a desert island somewhere, idgaf.

@badger33 Last year I would have agreed with you. That was before the vocal minority decided that trolling was the national past time. It's not that there's a lack of legit forums, it's that these people don't care and flood every available platform. Stuff like CS here is great, but on a national mass media level it's gone beyond control. It's always been a struggle, but it never used to be a Constitutional roadkill.

I never thought I'd say this - until this year I considered myself a bit of a rabid libertarian where censorship was concerned no matter HOW awful it was - but I'm starting to think that there needs to be some kind of basic limits put on free speech. It has been effectively weaponized by the stupid.

At this point I'd probably support a law banning all comment sections online. (I'm only half-serious but legitimately alarmed)

When did all public discourse become a teenaged game of CounterStrike?

@Mattrek Do you mean the extermination of all NON-white people? Unless nazis are hella confused these days.

Best thing about 2017: Martin Shkreli is still in jail and The Most Punchable Face in America has thus been blessedly out of the news for a couple of months.

@blackdove3 Don't blame Trump on the left, they didn't vote for his ass.

No major source is seriously saying she should run again, that's a few fringe elements. Never happen, the party would revolt en masse.

@blackdove3 I'd literally prefer the average feral dog to what we have now.

@blackdove3 IMO Pence is a sanctimonious twat, but I think the general opinion is that he'd be less of a reckless dumpster fire. Left/right divides aside, I think most of the US is feeling pretty bipartisan on that point. The main difference is some conservatives think it's sort of worth it to have a kamikaze retard to force through certain legislation that might not pass muster otherwise.

@wilw Fugazi is the stuff. Been on my playlist since 1990 at least.

@CD_Three Sounds like the Trump family's dating philosophy.

People are like "well she was 14 but it was consensual" and "well we should see it from the Nazi perspective, they're people too!" and "Charles Manson was a philosophical genius RIP". Like are you fucking kidding me

So November seems to be the month where the United States decided to humanize:

1. Pedophiles
2. Mass murderers
3. Nazis

Can we stop this shit, already? Because November is feeling pretty damn extra rn.
