Watching a live press conference about the Camp Fire in Paradise, California. 9 confirmed dead. Paradise is basically razed. 35 confirmed missing, hundreds more unaccounted for.
For those not familiar with the area, a large portion of Paradise and the affected surrounding areas is very rural. A lot of retired people and quite a few off the grid types, ie. people who might be hard to contact and warn to get out in time when a fire is burning at a rate of nearly a thousand acres an hour.
@Kitty62862 A generic version was approved in August.
@Kitty62862 Yes. Epinephrine is a bronchodilator. Both severe allergic reactions and asthma attacks can result in the constriction of the airway. An EpiPen doesn't reverse all symptoms of an allergic reactions, it just prevents you from dying due to anaphylactic shock, which acts similarly to asthma by impeding breathing. You use an EpiPen in both instances to open the airway, then seek medical assistance in the form of steroids and/or antihistamines to control the rest.
@Autumn @amarand This was my HEPA filter after this fire season https://counter.social/media/mao2yWKm4J2EJw8BGrA
@Autumn @amarand That's how it was in Seattle this summer. It got to where my eyes and throat burned all the time, and my 20 year old cat started coughing. By that point there were no masks, but I have a HEPA filter so indoor wasn't too bad. Hence, thought it might be better to warn people before it got to that point. These fires in CA won't be over any time soon.
@Jeast That's not realistic for people just going about their day, and I'd only suggest a serious P100 or similar if you're directly in a fire zone. Everyone just suffering from smoke blowback is fine with an N95/N99 and they're not terrible to wear.
Avoid fancy-looking neoprene fashion statement masks because they're generally bullshit.
If you have kids/elderly or asthmatics among your family *or your pets*, invest in HEPA air cleaners for your home. Pets need to breathe clean air, too!
And FYI, acute asthma attacks can kill, and kill quickly. If you have severe asthma or any other breathing issues, and you live on the west coast, consider carrying an epipen. An inhaler won't help you if you can't inhale it!
PSA to everyone in California (or on the West Coast in general): I strongly suggest you go to Home Depot and pick up a pack of N95 or N99 respirators. They quickly sold out everywhere when Seattle had major fires, and even Amazon was backordered. You want ones with exhaust valves to facilitate comfortable breathing, and TWO straps, not earloops or a single strap! Surgical masks and bandannas don't make a good enough seal or have a tight enough weave to effectively filter out smoke.
@CherNohio The shit always rolls downhill.
@AvaSpeaksUp It's really worth watching every single video he puts out. He's not a Democrat or a Republican, didn't care for Obama but hates Trump, and has a way of putting things into clear, relatable format. The fact that he's also a good ol' boy from Georgia just adds to it. Beau is a treasure.
Also this one. I mean, I adore all of them but this shit is super relevant right now.
I love Beau of the Fifth Column; all his vlogs are worth watching. This one hits hard.
@Khameleon808 @th3j35t3r Personalities, in my experience, tend to be a lot more slippery.
@th3j35t3r Jeez he could least show his tits or something.
I was just informed that I am the poster girl of this sub on Reddit (the sub is hella gross and NSFW, don't visit it lmao). But I'm totally laughing that TWELVE YEARS after this mirror selfie was taken, it still makes the rounds. It's so old that I'm actually using a *camera*.
84,030 losers still think I'm a potential big tiddy goth gf. 😂🔫 💀
...and nobody told him. 😂
