I am so tired of the "women invite sexual harassment from men because of the way they dress" line.

Dogs may hump your leg because they don't know any better, but they can be trained not to. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we shouldn't expect less of adult men than we do our household pets - the concept is not difficult. And when WOMEN lay the blame on other women? Oh man, that ticks me off.

@amynowacoski LOL

Typical, first response is someone complaining that what I said is disrespectful to men as opposed to being concerned about women being sexually harassed and some women blaming other women for it. Yeah, my comment that even pets can learn better is the problem, here...

@malice wait, I don't think you get what I'm saying... the notion that women are responsible for covering up or dressing right means that men are uncontrollable animals and can't control themselves. Its gives them an easy out and a whole set of excuses to force power over women and makes women always responsible for mens behavior

@malice yeah, see, you're not here, in my head, where there's an almost entire book written on the patriarchy with a whole chapter of how we infatalize men to keep them in power. So you know, I probably wasn't complete with my original comment Because I assume everyone can just read my thoughts. like duh and stuff.

@amynowacoski I feel like a lot of narratives are unintentionally damaging to their subjects by treating them as though they have no control over their own lives or behaviors. Reinforcing helplessness is never a good idea.

@malice exactly, men are not helpless victims of there all powerful and magnificent johnsons

@amynowacoski @malice who are these Johnson’s of which you speak? I will destroy them an seize their followers as my own

@BlackMage @malice
Oh sorry, I was trying to be ladylike. I mean COCK

@malice there is a book 'Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women' (1994) by Geraldine Brooks.
Which describes the overt misogyny of the Islamic world but once you see the patterns they are everywhere.
I have had to explain time and again to men that we don't dress for them but for other women. If we did dress for men god, the outfits 😨😨😨

@cathyshepherd Yeah. A lot of men are under the impression that we wear makeup and so on to impress men, but pretty much any woman will agree that men will compliment or hit on pretty much anyone, where if another woman compliments you, you know she means it. And a lot of us will do basic appearance stuff even if we live alone and will never leave the house that day just because it makes us feel nice. It really is not just for dudes at all.

@malice My sweet but dumb grandpuppies know not to touch their food until I give them the ok. What the hell is wrong with some men who never learned basic preschool etiquette to “keep your hands to yourself”?

@TetsuKaba Keep your hands to yourself, keep your fantasies to yourself, and just generally don't be a creep. Ain't rocket science.

@malice veiled women get raped.

So, how-a-woman-is-dressed makes no difference at all

@dawnling Yep.

And I think any woman who's lived in a big city knows that you get skeeved on and harassed even if you go to the store in baggy sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt with your hair a wreck and no makeup. Doesn't matter. You're female, and that's enough for guys like that.
