Since it's coming up in the firehose again (mostly supportive, thankfully! :) ) I just wanted to note again that every forum I've ever run, I ran under . Every forum but one I participated in, as well as every guild and other online gaming space I've been in or run, I did so pseudonymously.

Actions matter; names don't. And truly, knowing someone's "real name" (for certain values of "real") tells you nothing about them. How much do you *actually* know about Jack Dorsey, for instance?

@lenaoflune I’ve been involved with online communities for 20+ years as a member, mod, admin, and owner. I’m against the “real name” movement. It’s not practical or safe.

@mach1group 💯

Same here! I choose to use my real name on LinkedIn and by proxy here, but that's my choice after I did my own cost/benefit analysis.

No one should ever be forced to do so by a platform, IMO!
